Directions

The Montgomery Center for the Arts, at 125 Montgomery Road in Skillman, NJ, will be the site of a workshop entitled “Negotiating for Success in the IEP Process” at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, March 2.  The workshop will feature a presentation by Peg Kinsell, a member of the training staff of the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN http://SPANNJ.org ) on that topic.  There will also be a brief update on the recently approved changes to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA ) that parents should be most concerned about and a brief description of the annual SPAN conference scheduled to occur in West Windsor, March 18 and 19.  The workshop is being sponsored by A Parents Initiative for Every Childs’ Education (APIECE).  There is a small suggested donation to cover room rental but nobody will be turned away for lack of ability to donate.  More information is available on the websites of APIECE: http://APIECENJ.org and its Student Advocate Committee http://StudentAdvocate-NJ.org .  Advance registration is strongly urged as the room capacity is limited to 50 participants.  The event is open to the public and those who are pre-registered will get priority over anyone who shows up without registering.   You can register or get more information by contacting Bob Witanek at 908-881-5275 or bwitanek@apiecenj.org .  You should provide your name, the number of attendees, your phone number, mailing address and e-mail address.

The aims of the event are to provide parents with the skills they need in preparation for the IEP renewals that occur usually during the spring.  Ms. Kinsell will also invite participants to consider enrolling for future SPAN organized training sessions so that they can serve as IEP advisors to other parents.
