Where are the Candidates?
The NJ IDEIA 2004 Organizing
Committee has made many attempts to contact both major gubernatorial candidates
about the petition drive and our concerns about the harmful changes that are
pending. One of our volunteers ran into Doug Forrester at a picnic and held a
conversation with him on the topic. We have made many attempts to encourage both
major campaigns and candidates to communicate their positions on this important
issue - not only to the public - but to the Department of Education and the
Acting Governor Codey Administration.
We have contacted many Assembly candidates and office holders as well as
Senators.
The good news is that we actually have two gubernatorial candidates who have
signed the petition While they have no chance of winning the Gubernatorial seat,
we welcome their support for our children. They are Tino Rozzi of the Socialist
Party and Matt Thieke of the Green Party.
Apparently the major party candidates are calculating that they do not need to
participate in this process on behalf of our children - that this issue that
effects 225,000 special education students and hundreds of thousands voting
parents and guardians is not important. We urge you to contact Senator Corzine
and Doug Forrester as well as all other candidates, including Assembly
candidates and minor party candidates to urge them to take a stand on this
matter. Urge them to sign the petition at
http://StudentAdvocate-NJ.org
, to get letters out to the NJ DOE and the Acting Governor and to otherwise
publicize a position in support of our children. The contact information for
them is as follows:
U.S. Senator Corzine, 1 Gateway Center, 11th Fl., Newark, NJ 07102,
