Does Your Rec. Dept.
Provide Programming for Residents with Disabilities?
Our organization, A Parents’ Initiative
for Every Childs'’ Education was able to prod the Town Committee to initiate the
process for providing such programming in Montgomery Township, NJ. Details and a
sample letter to get started are at
http://APIECENJ.org We will lend you a hand in getting a similar
effort going in your town. For us, it was accomplished without a great
expenditure of effort. We believe the same can be true in most smaller towns.
There are a growing number of townships that have made similar progress and if
yours is not one of them, we urge you to make it happen. Here is what we did:
Sent a letter to the Committee and Mayor calling for such programming.
Urged the local paper to cover a story on what various area towns do in this
regard.
Followed up with letters and calls to the Committee and Recreation Department.
As the Township took action, in the form of a survey, we placed a letter in the
paper praising all involved and urging support for the survey.
Followed through with phone calls, letters and meeting participation.
While the process is still progressing, we are confident of the success of this
low intensity effort as we urge you to follow suit in your neighborhoods. Call
us at 908-881-5275 should you want to discuss the idea.
