To think that this process will only get
weaker is very concerning, in fact a travesty
by
Renee and Michael Woods
As
a parent and advocate for my daughter in the East Brunswick school system, it
has been a challenge ensuring that her IEP is adhered to. We were told that
some days she is "off" and some days she is "on" -- we examined what she was
eating and the time she went to bed but couldn't find what was changing
day-by-day. My child hasn't changed but her IEP is not administered
consistently. Staying on top of this is very difficult for us, as parents and
adults -- we can only imagine what it is like for her to try and advocate for
herself as a student and child.
To
think that this process will only get weaker is very concerning, in fact a
travesty. We must, as parents and advocates ensure that they stand by "No
child being left behind". We would like to know how the suggested changes
supports that slogan.
